Abstrak

Diesel power plant is a power plant that use fuel oil diesel (HSD) to generate electricity. The increasing consumption of HSD resulted on the depletion of petroleum reserves from year to year. Therefore, the government requires diesel power plant to use biofuels (biodiesel) type Fatty Acid Methyl Ester (FAME) by 30% (B30) as a mixture of HSD. The use of biodiesel as a blend HSD gives some impact on diesel engines such as changes in the value of the specific fuel consumption (SFC) as differences in the characteristics of the fuel, exhaust emissions, and operating parameters. Therefore, a research is needed to find out the major changes on diesel power plant engine by comparing the test results when using HSD and B30 with apple to apple method. HSD calorific value is higher than the calorific value of B30, it is causing the SFC increased when using B30 with an increase of the remaining 3.11% at 50% load, 3.12% at 75% load, and 2.74% at 100% load. There is a change in exhaust emissions when using B30, higher than when using HSD. However, it is still within the limits of emission quality standards. No significant changes on operating parameters either when using HSD or B30.
