Abstract

ABSTRACT Riverbank settlement normalization is an integrated effort to improve the quality of life for communities residing along river channels. Guided by regulations such as Law No. 35/1991 on rivers, this normalization is undertaken in response to the imbalance between population growth, land needs, and environmental impacts resulting from uncontrolled development. This research delves into the concept and implementation of riverbank settlement normalization, using the case study of the Ciliwung River in Jakarta. By integrating community participation, disaster risk mitigation, and settlement planning strategies, this normalization aims to create a habitat that is safe, comfortable, and sustainable. The research findings provide in-depth insights into the impacts of normalization on community well-being, environmental conservation, and disaster risk mitigation efforts. The resulting policy implications and recommendations are expected to be a significant contribution to the broader development of riverbank settlement normalization strategies.
