Abstract

ABSTRACT Over the last few years, air quality in Jakarta has gotten worse due to the rapid development of the city. However, it does not rule out the possibility for Jakarta to maintain growth while improving air quality. Ways to control air pollution in cities through the field of architecture, including architecture, help limit or reduce the amount of energy used in buildings and improve air quality inside and outside buildings. Building facades not only function as building elements but also provide an aesthetically attractive appearance and have a dynamic function in responding to surrounding environmental conditions, from sunlight to dirty urban air. Technically, a smart facade or building envelope can adapt to environmental conditions. Architecture as a form of strategy to reduce air pollution also considers how building facades can help in fighting air pollution by looking at the potential in using various types of facades including for example water-based facades, algae or green plants to help filter the air around the building. This research aims to examine the three types of facade bases, why algae or microalgae-based facades are more effective in overcoming Jakarta's air pollution problem. The facade or appearance of a building is an important thing in architectural design. It usually appears that buildings are made of conventional materials, such as glass (transparent area) or walls (solid area) or variations of both. But what if algae were used as an architectural element in buildings as a form of implementing renewable energy-based building design. This research adopts a qualitative research approach and uses a review of relevant literature on air pollution and environmental impact control followed by a comparison of different views regarding the potential use of various types of smart building facades in an effort to address Jakarta's air pollution. Keywords: Innovation, Architecture, Façade, Pollution, Air ABSTRACT Over the last few years, air quality in Jakarta has gotten worse due to the rapid development of the city.
