BETAWI TRADITIONAL HOUSE SETTLEMENT IN THE SETU BABAKAN CULTURAL HERITAGE AREA-JAKARTA

Abstract

The pattern of population settlement in an area is strongly influenced by the physical condition of the area; the physical condition in question is the topography of the area. The influence of this physical condition is very visible in settlement patterns in rural areas, for example, the pattern of settlements that extends following the river flow and some adapt to other locations. This research is located in the Situ Babakan area, which is a cultural heritage with the concept of preserving Betawi culture. It aims, among other things, to know settlement patterns, shapes, and spaces found in Betawi traditional house settlements, the use of materials in traditional settlements, and the types of traditional settlements in the Situ Babakan area of South Jakarta. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method and an analytical method by looking at the condition of the research object through descriptions, meanings, or explanations of analyses that are measurable or unmeasurable. It is hoped that the role and cooperation of the DKI Jakarta Department and Regional Government are needed to develop the Situ Babakan area and organize settlement patterns with existing rural activities so that they remain consistent and sustainable in accordance with the Betawi cultural village settlement program.
